L'ambigut fondamentale de l'attitude envers la vieillesse se retrouve cependant tout au long des sicles, car si le vieillard se plaint de son grand ge, il en tire gloire et cherche prolonger ses jours. La fontaine de jouvence n'a-t-elle pas toujours t le plus fol espoir de l'homme occidental?
